Smart Energy Projects

Van Warmerdam Dairy was added to the Smart Energy portfolio in July of 2016 and is the first project outside of the Pacific Northwest for the program. The digester is on a family owned farm near Galt, CA, and uses the biogas to power a 600 kW “peaking” generator. Essentially, it is used like a battery, using the biogas to generate electricity only during peak demand times and storing it during periods of low demand. The farm also has a 234 acre solar installation producing enough power for 8,000 – 9,000 homes.
